![]() Health and Safety - old style!David and I took our parents on holiday recently. My Mum is the best historical chatter in the world and midst the constant flow came this tale! The duty brewer was doing his rounds in Cheltenham Original Brewery, in1950 ish, and noticed a flat cap floating on top of the fermenting beer in the vessel. There were signs of a polished bald head top as well. Hurriedly Claude Mouse and Dad pulled the owner of the cap and cap out of the beer and mercifully he was alive and well! I would think perhaps with a stinking hangover! How he got there? Well health and safety would love it today, the vessels were open topped and to reach a high valve a plank was put across the corner of the vessel, he climbed on and whoops in he went. I bet in those days nothing was said and the beer went out in the trade! |
