The Veggie Garden

Well, I think the time has come to fill you in a little more on the Veggie garden.

David and I have long dreamed of having our own garden again. Whilst the children were growing we used to be almost self sufficient in the days when they were all at school and I had long sunny days to weed and watch the veggies grow.

So here we are again. The bomb site of waste mud that came from under the new cellar formed the platform for the beds which we have made as raised bed to help us when in wheel chairs! Patrick says its down hill all the way to weed and much harder work on the way up again!

We have 3 sections now in our easy to run garden. 2 polytunnels, veggie garden, and fruit cage which is under construction and will be up and running next year. On the banks between the terraces we shall plant apples plum and peaches.

We have to fit the construction side in amongst the brewery and its building projects, but by next summer the new hedging and Green Room will all be up and running too.

This week I have cancelled many of the salads I have being buying for some years now, I'm sorry Dorothy, but to be able to go and pick your own is both practical and hugely satisfactory and the ultimate tastes so much better.

The only thing we have to be really patient with is the asparagus bed, which we can't use for 2 more years, never mind it will be worth it!

My one treat for both smell and honey, is a collection of cutting flowers which I never have done before, and there hasn't been room either, but I've decided as I don't like picking flowers from my garden for the house that I'd grow to pick for pots in the house! Well that's ironic, everything down there goes to pots, perhaps just like me in the end!
